I am a little late posting this and yes I am a bad blogger lately! Last November when I found out Barry Manilow was going to be at the Hollywood Bowl for the fourth of July I knew I had to go. I got to thinking what a fun trip it might be to take our granddaughters on. I asked them if they would like to go see Barry (of course they know who he is) for the fourth of July. They loved the idea...I kinda knew they would. I didn't waste any time buying 5 tickets to this wonderful event!
The worst part about this trip was how long we had to wait for it. It seemed like forever! Finally after all these months of waiting we on our way.
First we dropped Sophie off at her Auntie's house.
Sophie checking out where she's going to sleep for the next 5 days.
Then of course we started off with a yummy breakfast before heading to San Francisco.
Oops! Lily didn't make it very far...must have been the full tummy! Thank goodness she doesn't read my blog or I might get in trouble for this picture! :)
Even though I was born in this beautiful city I still get excited when I visit.
It was a bit foggy but I still couldn't help but take a picture!
We had lunch at the Wharf.
We took the girls to Ocean Beach where I played when I was a kid. Gracie looks a little cold!
We lived two blocks from the beach which is kind of fun when you're a kid.
We spent the night at the Hyatt Regency by the airport. The girls were excited to have their very own room which of course I forgot to take pictures of. :(
We had to be at the airport at 5:00 am. I have to say it went quite smoothly.
From the smiles on their faces you would never know it was 5:00 am.
Since we fly stand-by we never know if we will get on the flight. We were hoping for first class but would just be happy to get on the plane.
We didn't get first class but it's a short flight.
Maddie & Lily
Gotta love a fifty-five minute flight! I took this from our hotel room window. The weather was a bit hazy and cool which was so nice for a change.
The first thing on our agenda was a trip to the American Girl Store for Gracie. We gave her a gift card for her birthday so she could use it at the store.
As soon as we arrived Gracie made an appointment for Rebecca (her doll) to have her hair done.
Gracie is done shopping and Rebecca has a pretty new hair-do!
Next stop Sprinkles Cupcakes! If you have ever watched Cupcake Wars you have heard of Sprinkles Cupcakes.
These were the BEST cupcakes I've ever eaten!
They have a pink ATM machine that dispenses cupcakes! How cool is that?
Next door to our hotel was the huge shopping complex with 14 restaurants. They had live music in the evening.
Of course this is my favorite picture!
Finally it's time for the show! I had shirts made for the five of us for this fun night. Anyone one who knows me or reads my blog knows I drag my husband to see Barry a lot! So I had a shirt made for him that said just that!
The front says...My wife dragged me to see Barry again!
The back says...Tag-Along! Even though he wasn't over joyed with having to wear the shirt he got a lot of attention from women that night. How bad can that be?
The front of the girl's shirts say My Gramma took us to see Barry!
The back of their shirts say Fanilow In Training!
Waiting for the cab to take us to the Bowl!
Waiting for the show to start!
We had some famous people sitting right in front of us.
The gentleman in the dark jacket with his back to me was television game show host Wink Martindale. The man in the white hat talking to the ladies was Michael Lloyd one of Barry's lyricists. While we were sitting there waiting for the show to start he said he was talking to Barry on the phone! :)
Enoch Anderson another one of Barry's lyricists.
The gentleman all the way to the right that got cut off is Johnny Tillitoson who sang Poetry in Motion.
This is a girl I met from Facebook who wasn't too shy to have her picture taken with Wink Martindale. The cute girl in the back on the left is my granddaughter Lily.
The LA Philharmonic was outstanding!
So glad I bought a new camera before we went!
He was so amazing as always!
The last song Barry sang was a song he wrote called "Let Freedom Ring". While he sang the fire works began. It was magical! Very hard to capture in a photo! I was so happy to share this with my granddaughters. This was a trip we will never forget!
Thursday we started with a yummy breakfast at our hotel before heading to Universal Studios.
Unfortunately thousands of other people had the same idea.
No discount for Gracie!
One of the houses from Desperate Housewives. I never watched the show but I sure like the house!
It looks just like a real neighborhood doesn't it?
The Bates Motel from the movie Psycho. They had a guy putting a body in the trunk of the car then he chased the tram with a knife.
We saw a flash flood.
The girls got a little wet on this ride!
Lily & Maddie being eaten by Jaws!
We saw a great water show!
We finished the night with a yummy crepe.
When we went back to the room our last night there the girls made this with the glow sticks they collected from the show. How sweet was that? :)
On our way back to LAX...it went way too fast!
On the plane headed for San Francisco.
This was a trip I will never forget...I hope they won't either.
Thanks for letting me share this with you.
Have a great weekend!
