Pink Saturday...A Blast From The Past!

Happy Pink Saturday everyone!  Hopefully you are surviving this cold winter season.  I'm going to take you for a walk down Memory Lane and you don't even have to put on your coat! :)  For those of you who were born in the 50's like me you probably will remember these.

Remember Spoolies?

I can't figure out why I ever used Spoolies since I have WHINED complained all my life about having curly hair!  What was I thinking?  When my sister and I were older we used to iron our hair! lol  My mother used to yell at us for making her iron smell like hair.  Memories!

I can't believe when I posted this yesterday I forgot all about Popbeads!  I loved them!  I can still remember playing with them like it was yesterday!

Did your mom ever buy these Butter Mints?   My mother always had them in a candy dish when we had company.  You didn't even have to chew them...they just melted in your mouth.  That must be how they got their name! LOL

We always had ribbon candy at Christmas!

I couldn't wait to see what the comic strip was inside my Bazooka gum.  I think that was almost as fun as chewing the gum!

I remember when Fruit Stripe gum first came out in the early 60's...we thought it was so amazing!  Things were a lot more simple in those days.  It didn't take much to excite us as kids!

Of Course everyone knows Good & Plenty candy.

Can't forget bubble gum cigars!

Remember these gums?  My mother's favorite was Beemans.

Did any of you have a pink princess phone?  I had one when I was older.  Wish I still had it but that was back when the phone company owned your phones.

Remember the princess phone keychains?

Thanks for visiting me today.  Hope you enjoyed my little "Blast From The Past".  Even though I feel more antique than ever it was fun looking back at the simple things that entertained us for hours. Don't forget to visit Beverly at How Sweet The Sound to see what the other Pink Saturday posts are.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Sissy,

I just love Spoolie Head. She is my favorite. Hysterical things to remember. I can't believe we ironed our hair. It was the only way to get my straight. Now I like my curls.

    Love,

  3. I did enjoy your blast from the past...although I only remember fruit stripe gum, the mints and the ribbon candy! (I was born in late sixties)

I also have a touch tone pink phone...right at the end when Bell Telephone was letting you purchase your "rented" phone. So, I still have it! Great post...lots of fun.

  6. That was such a fun retro tour! I don't remember the curlers but I remember the rest. I'm a 60's baby. Getting a phone was such a big deal to a young girl! Probably like getting a cell phone these days. Those mints were a staple at every wedding we went to. I can just feel one melting in my mouth. lol Thanks for the happy memories. Feel like I need to go watch Brady Bunch or something.
    Happy PS!

  9. I am very familiar with most all the things you shared today. The princess phone was the thing back when I was working. I worked for telephone company 40 years. I like Bubble Gum even today.

  13. Happy Pink Saturday Denise Sweetie...
Oh my gosh do I ever remember spoolies. I hated them, but Momma was always curling my hair, as Daddy said it was straight as a string. They did curl your hair though.

Now I loved Bazooka bubble gum, blew the best bubbles. Never like licorice, so the Good and Plenty I never bought, but sure do remember them. Especially when we went to the movies. My friend always bought them.

I too remember when the bubblegum cigars came out. Oh were they the talk of the town. I always wore my cigar ring on my finger. Loved it. Pink of course.

When I graduated High School in the 70s I got my own phone line in my room. Yes I did, and I had an aqua colored princess phone installed. I loved blue. I thought I was SO up town. Loved it.

Thanks for taking me down memory lane today. I so love to stroll now and again.

Have a gorgeous weekend sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

  17. Hi Denise!

I have never heard of those before now!
but as far as curly hair goes..mine goes naturally, but it will also straighten brilliantly as well...so I guess the best of both worlds will have to do! lol

I've been crocheting like a madwoman! making and listing new things!
stop by if you've a minute to spare!

    ciao bella
