George & Ruth
May 24, 1947
My parents were introduced to each other by my mother's older sister Alyce. They fell in love immediately. My mother lived in Fresno and my father in San francisco which is about 175 miles. Back then that was really a long distance relationship. I never realized how romantic my father was until I found a love letter he wrote to her. He told her how much he loved her over and over and how much his parents loved her. That was really important in those days to be accepted by the parents. They were married in San Francisco, California at my grandparent's home after only a three month courtship. When my father passed way in 1998 they were just two months shy of 51 years.
Sniff! Beautiful my friend. I hope one day when I'm gone and my children find the love letters I wrote to their daddy they will KNOW by reading my own words how much I LOVED their father.
ReplyDeleteThe pics of your kiddos are equally beautiful.
Thank you for sharing.

What a legacy to leave for their children---a long and committed marriage. My parents celebrated their 51st earlier this year, and both sets of my grandparents made it at least 50 years before one of them passed away. In this day of broken marriages, it's such a blessing to come from a lineage like yours...and mine.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo collage. Thank you for sharing.

Denise, such a wonderful romantic post about your parent's love story! Love the music. The collage is wonderful. Your parents were such a handsome couple ~ they truly look like movie stars in those pics. Love your mother's dress and headpiece and your dad's wide lapels! Do you have their wedding cake topper? How special that they were allowed to share 51+ years together! And that love letter is just the icing on the cake ~ how wonderful to have that as a special keepsake.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining the WEDDING BLOG PARTY!

The photo's are beautiful and to be treasured! That's the sad part about email these days, handwritten love letters don't exist as much anymore. My husband (he's #2 but my forever man) wrote out everything he wanted to say when he proposed to me but he got so nervous that he forgot it all. So he gave me the paper it was written on and it's so beautiful, I'll keep it forever!
ReplyDeleteI loved this story. And the photos are fabulous too.
